Fungi Fest on

image Koko & Sunshine band out of St. John performing in 2007

Thirteen days before Christmas patrons will hear of “A Demijohn of Guava Berry” and of course “Mama will be Rushed to Bake the Johnny Cake,” as the VI Fungi Fest Committee presents another Fungi Festival.

Reports indicate that committee members are moving forward with plans for the third VI Fungi Fest and have selected December 12 as a tentative date for the event.

BVI News was informed that following uncertainty about whether or not the Fest should be held this year, the committee met on Thursday, November 26 and decided to proceed with plans to showcase Fungi music again this year.

While the names of  international artistes, carded to perform, were not disclosed; the Fungi Fest is expected to bring back the old time fun with cowbells, triangles, squashes and maracas.

Fungi music is a very vibrant part of Virgin Island’s Culture. It was through this medium that Islanders are  said to have expressed themselves in days gone by. The committee was established in August 2007 with the objective to preserve and promote the musical aspect of the Territory.

I am really looking forward to the Fungi fet. I have two young kids that I can't wait to let them see what our culture is really like. Please dont disappoint me by not having a show this year. Go out and be great.

Music to the ears....and History! on November 30, 2009 02:11:16 AM
That is wonderful news!! However, most folks coming home for Christmas will miss the event because we all come in the week/weekend before Christmas...you guys might want to consider changing the event date to the Saturday before Christmas (Dec 19th)...this will allow those of us traveling home to enjoy the event too...you will also get a better turn out...you guys know how it is trying to get home on a plane then the boats...i don't think we're asking too much.....only to consider the ones trying to get home in time to enjoy another old fashion Fungi Band show down..,,,some of us have not been home in years......we understand the show must go on , but since it was mentioned that the date was not SET AS YET (tentative date)we thought we write and BEG ....keeping the event on the 19th will put folks in the right mind and mood for Christmas week....WE AINT TO PROUD TO BEG..Please think about what we shared....thank you Ladies and Gents of the committee..
