AMB, Vendom Boyz, Top Notch Soul Jahz, Krown Heights, Country Boyz, Higher Level and CB 4 Lyfe have all advanced to the semi-finals in the third annual Artists Against AIDS song writing competition held on Saturday evening at Sir. Rupert Briercliffe Hall.
BVI News spoke with AIDS advocate and one of the organizers of the show, Craig Lake aka Push Pop, who explained that fans would now have to text 499-8672 to vote for their favorite performer.
“So starting from Monday on Top 7@7 the artist (s) who can maintain the top position for five days will be the winner,” Lake said.
The popular DJ said he was pleased with the high quality of lyrics penned by the performers. Even the Elmore Stoutt High School Drama group’s performance was appreciated by the small crowd.
And throughout the more than two hour concert the message was clear - HIV/AIDS is a killer so we must abstain and condomise.
Additionally, motivational speaker Luce Maldonado-Vanderperk captured the audience’s attention with her life story. She is an AIDS survivor.
Minister for Health and Culture Dancia Penn-Sallah, Chairman of the HIV/AIDS Foundation Reverend Sandra Malone and Elvis Harrigan all called for the community’s support in getting the message out.
Other artistes that performed included Lyrical Movement, Legacy, The Champs, Alex Lettsome, Artful and VI Lander All Star.
The concert was organized by the HIV/AIDS Foundation whose agenda is to provide significant opportunities for the Foundation to promote sexual health and increase young people’s awareness and consciousness of the virus.
