The next concert in H. Lavity Stoutt Community College’s 2009-2010 Performing Arts Series will feature local singer and musician, Quito Rymer, along with his band, The Edge, in what has been dubbed a “Virgin Islands Showcase.”

The concert will be held in the College Auditorium on Saturday 28 November, starting at 8:00 p.m. Coordinator for the College’s Performing Arts Series, Linette Baa, said the Virgin Islands Showcase promises to be an exciting night of music and entertainment.

“I have been attending Quito’s rehearsals and I know patrons will be in for a rare treat,” she said.

Growing up in the British Virgin Islands where he was born, Quito has always been in tune with his homeland and its rich culture. He first found expression for his natural, artistic talent through painting and drawing.

Quito’s musical career began in the church halls of Cane Garden Bay. As a young man, through trial, error and observation, he taught himself to play the guitar. With considerable original productions to his credit, composing both lyrics and music, he continues to share his appreciation for the BVI with the rest of the world.

Along with his band, Quito has opened for performances by Third World, Freddie McGregor and Ziggy Marley, and has appeared many times on television shows in the United States.

He regularly plays solo, and also appears with his band, as guests enjoy dinner and drinks at Quito’s Gazebo in Cane Garden Bay. Among his releases thus far are Reggae Express, Mix Up World, Searching, Paradise and Caribbean Run.

Tickets for the concert are $20, or $25 at the door, and are available at LIME, the HLSCC Bookstore at Paraquita Bay, the College’s Road Town Bakery, Umi Fashions and Sunny Caribbee.

HLSCC faculty and staff are $10 and College students, $5, and are available only at the Bookstore and at the door on concert night; primary and secondary school students are admitted free.

Tickets for the post-concert reception, which all the performers attend, are sold separately for $15 each, and will include fine hors d’oeuvres, wine and champagne.
