Impressive lineup for East End Festival

With Digicel as its premier sponsor, the East End Festival Committee has put together an impressive lineup for this year’s festival.

BVI News has learned that the festival will kick off with the Miss East End/Long Look Pageant, which will take place at the East End /Long Look Community Centre on Friday, July 31.

The beach fete is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 1.  It was stated that the fete is being sponsored by CCT, and will be featuring Jam Band and Showtime Band. Boat races and other beach action are part of the planned attraction for the 2009 beach fete.

The East Village will open on Monday, August 3 with the Return of the Titans, featuring Jam Band, Imaginations Reunion and Prime Time. This will prelude the Digicel-sponsored Reggae Success Show that will feature Daville and Baby Cham.

On Tuesday August 4 the Kendoy 'Reds' Penn Memorial Soca Show will take place and this will feature the local Soca Monarch, Jamesy P, Ritical, Luni Sparks and Electrify, Fireman Hooper, plus the Xtreme Band. Soca sensation Machel Montano and crew will be the headliner for that night.

The CCT sponsored Daddy Friday Rise and Shine Tramp is set for Wednesday, August 5 and the Jam Tyme Band will be there to provide tempo.

Following the tramp all roads will lead to the Digicel-sponsored Family Fun Day and Parade that will feature DJ Renegade, Leon and the Hot Shots, Show Time, Paul Keens Douglas, Grand Masters, and Cool Sessions.

Chairman of the East End Festival Committee Sandra Warrican told BVI News that the committee tried to put acts in place to make the festival as enjoyable as possible.

She said the annual festival is a celebration of the territory’s emancipation and is hoping that with this in mind there should be no room for violence.

Additionally, Warrican said that the security will be tight this year with more visibility. Overall she says that everything is the same as last year except that the committee is hoping that the patrons enjoy themselves more.

I can understand trying to maintain Culture and Heritage. But, in an Economy like todays, I think that Government can find more efficient ways in disbursing monies to help the Citizen of these Islands. Do we have people going around to the homes of Elders and Shut Ins and making sure that they have a bite to eat, water to drink, and Medical Attention. This is what the BVI Government should be spending monies on. If we humble Ourselves and think back to where, when, and why we are celebrating, we will be lending a hand, and not putting out one.

WHAT ARE WE REALLY CELEBRATING.THIS YEAR WE HAVE MADE A GREAT MILESTONE 175 YEARS,SINCE WE HAVE BEEN EMANCIPATED FROM SLAVERY.THERE IS ANOTHER TYPE OF SLAVERY THAT IS HERE UPON US.WE HAVE MENTAL,SOCIAL,POLITICAL,AND ECONOMIC SLAVERY GOING ON HERE.WE A A PEOPLE IT IS TIME FOR US TO WISE UP AND EDUCATE OUR SELVES,STOP BEING BRAINWASHED BY THESE POLITICIANS AND THESE RELIGIOUS INSTITUTIONS.TODAY OUR FREEDOM COMES WITH A PRICE AND THEY HAVE TAKEN ALL THE FUN AND ENJOYMENT OUT OF OUR EMANCIPATION CELEBRATION.TODAY OUR FREEDOM IS ABOUT POLITICIANS MAKING A NAME FOR THEM SELVES,THEN U HAVE INSTITUTIONS LIKE, DIGICEL.CCT GLOBAL COMMUNICATIONS,LIME.THIS IS WHAT OUR FESTIVAL CELEBRATION COMES DOWN TO,THESE BUSINESS PROMOTING THEIR COMPANIES WITH THE HELP OF CONTRIBUTIONS FROM OUR POLITICIANS,IT IS REALLY SAD TO SEE ALL THE HARD WORK OUR FOREFATHERS SACRIFICED FOR US.NOW EVERYTHING HAS BOILED DOWN AS TO WHO CAN OUT SPEND WHO.THIS IS NOT NOTHING TO DO WITH EMANCIPATION.

SICK SICK on July 23, 2009 09:29:29 PM
I really cant understand for the love of God how we end up spending so much money for festival time. its like a Competition , who can out do who. I am really sick of this gross spending. Why in the world you have to give districts money to have a cultural event. This really is the end of time. People just sit and wait for this time of the year to come around to suck the Government for what they dish out. It makes me sick to the bone. No one listen any more all they do is spending, spend, and spend a set of money for shows. For people to come in wuck up them body and get shit. I miss the old times when you could go out eat drink meet friends laugh talk, listen to Sparrow and a few others cultural events . They now have been replaced with big bands and artists.

Hey the public needs to know that Government give $50,00.00 - $60,000.00 for the festival in the East and Carrot Bay. From the lineup for east end and carrot bay's festival they are surely over their budgets. If there are big sponsors to assist cost then government wouldn't have to clear the outstanding bills after festival. People needs to understand that the lineups increases and thats a high cost with those to sub-committees. Hope that them don't have to go to government for more money. Collin, be on on the look out cause them coming, just make sure RT bills are cleared since it was messed up from the 2008 unfair, lyning and self management board.

Ok i had enough. I been to beyonce, rhianna and 50 Cent concerts and the price to go in to see them is in 3figures. You all willing to pay a 100 to see an artist who is so called "big".

look wa ayo turn festival into! Tyrese!!! some one who dont know shyt bout caribbean culture and our way of life....i was vex when i here he coming.

Virgin Islands you all need to open your arms and embrace our strong culture which was put in place by our forebeares.

We dont need international artist who dont even know what festival mean to come here and run our festival. Stick to what you know and wuk with what you have.....

How can we remember the time when we always want to change the time.

Jam Tyme Band for EE/LL jouvert?!? WTF! Hell nah, jam tyme don't pull no crowd. It seems like u want to have a re-run of last year's jouvert when ppl were expecting them (i.e. when they pulled a crowd) and got showtime instead. Jamband is back together and sounding nice, and trust me it will have a bigger turn-out then a jam tyme jouvert!!!

Carrot Bay, as small as it is, outshines both Road Town & East End every year.

All the people telling others to stop complaining need to silence themselves and stop accepting mediocrity. It's my money, my festival and I intend to enjoy it. If the line-up is lessssss, I have the right to talk about it. The BVI has seen Destra & Machel more than Trinidad itself. Thats a damn shame.

Last Lap will be ram...more people than CB can hold, but that makes for a better jam!

A Shame... on July 15, 2009 07:50:04 AM
It's too bad that some folks in the BVI don't recognize the hard work that people put into these festivals and in obtaining the artists. If you don't appreciate the line-up, DON'T COME. I'm sure there are plenty of people who will have a good time in spite of your criticisms.
