Tyrese and Maxi Priest to headline Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta

International renowned singer and actor Tyrese will make his debut appearance in the Caribbean with an enticing performance at the Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta, which is scheduled for Thursday, August 6 through Saturday, August 8.

Chairman of the Committee Stuart Donovan said: “We decided to add a bit of twist this year by having an R&B artiste, and we are confident that people will appreciate it.”

Tyrese will be performing on the last evening, Saturday, August 8, while international reggae artiste Maxi Priest will take centre stage on Friday, August 7.

Other artistes to grace the stage of the much anticipated Carrot Bay Cultural Fiesta include Trinidad and Tobago Soca Monarch Faye Ann-Lyons; “Fire Man” Bunji Garlin; Shurwayne Winceshter; USVI’s Jam Band and Antigua’s King Swallow. Showtime Band, Jalena, Jamsey P, Rudy, CB4 Lyfe and Extreme Band are among the many local acts that will create the festive vibe.

The committee has always been famous for the cultural aspects and this year is no exception. Donovan said that apart from the cultural presentation and torch light procession, the committee is planning to have a mini-museum opposite the Festival Ground where the ruins of a slave plantation still stand.

The lists of slaves who were enslaved on that plantation circa 1818 will be on display along with other artifacts used during that period.

“We thought this would also pique the interest of persons and add a touch of authenticity to our cultural programme,” the chairman disclosed.

Prior to the opening ceremony, which will commence at 6 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, fishermen will bring in their haul and battle for trophies and prizes in the annual Fisherman’s Tournament. This year’s tournament will be held in honour of Hezekiah Stoutt, a 74-year-old fisherman, who hails from Long Bay and still enjoys his fishing expeditions.

On Friday, August 7, beginning from 12 noon, the family-oriented activities begin in full swing, and include donkey races, tug of war, children’s races and plait pole before the likes of Extreme Band, Bunji Garlin, Fayann Lyons and Maxi Priest hit the stage.

The power boat races, sponsored by Synergy, will lead off Saturday’s daytime events, which culminates with performances from Jamsey P, Jalena, Rudy, Showtime Band, Shurwayne Winchester and Tyrese.

Admission on Thursday is FREE.  Admission for Friday and Saturday is $20.

CCT is the platinum sponsor for the Cultural Fiesta.

For further information please contact Stuart Donovan at 496-6254.

I missed something (Smile) maybe if you did a little research you would know the representative Joe Wilson of South Carolina did not have the right to shout what he did and was condemned by both parties. A nation's president should always be respected and in the House of representative!
Good example to use of "free speech" the total and uncalled for disrespect of our first US black President. How beautiful it would be if someone could reprimand & censure you!!!

I worry not about being punked by a man who obviously is playing games, silly rabbit tricks are for kids!!!

No I did not get the info from the internet, went to the congressional library in Washington DC you idiot. However, it's obvious you did no research but the objective is to counter misinformation.

Sick of you clowns making noise without the facts just yada yada yada and then pray to God nobody calls you out. Stand up and back your comments up with fact or sit down and be quiet.

As I stated the cursing was uncalled for but people came out in numbers to see a muti talented Movie Star, Actor & Model. Not trying to change your mind just giving you a little lesson.

If you are the moral police, go march in front of the Prostitution business half a black away from high school, then get ya picket sign and picket in front of the Stripper bars.

When you finish with that let the preacher who opened on Thursday Festival (Gospel) night with soca gospel know the christian community did not like or appreciate the artist that was singing lyrics and I quote "No ting ting without a ring ring" let that CGB preacher know this is not christian music singing about women's private parts.

Thank you friend:o) I will look out for you on the corners or when I go by the strip club to get my groove on...

As I said before "Full of sound and fury signifying nothing" Macbeth

Reading and research is fundamental for some of us.

Funny to know you took the time after all these months to reply to the comment written by..."I was there" ..the writer had every right to write/voice how they felt.."free speech"..just like the senator who yelled at Obama "You LIE"....you keep your history to yourself.....your words WILL NOT change people feelings or will it erase what was written...enjoy your life and better still we know you got the info from the internet but don't worry...we won't hate on you for showing you have common sense and can DO research......BIG UP on that one!! Not to worry there might be someone who really appreciates your info,,,,,,,I am sure "i was there" knew all that but you went for the bait and got punk'd.....ouch!! LOL

I was there you remind me of a famous quote "Full of sound and fury signifying nothing" Macbeth

Let me shed a little light on your misguided opinion. I you do not like tyrese then simple do not go, why do you feel the need to pay for a one hit wonder?

Note Tyrese is not just a singer but an actor, singer, song writer and producer. One platinum and two Gold album sold says who like his music. I assume you did not go out and buy the album.

I will also assume by your writing that you did not even attend the show, or you would know the Sherwayne Winchester, arguably the number one soca artist closed out the night!!!

The girls are his dancers you idiot, like many major acts they have dancers ever heard of Beyance Noles ? The girls on stage moving and grooving are dancers.

What culture of the BVI bend down low and stick out ya bum. The ladies with very little on bending down in town while some guy grinds on her ass??? Put yo whole mouth over the hole. Baron has more vulgarity then Tyreese he just says it in a nicer way (Smile).

Why is this man's criteria and requirements an issue for you??? Why did you even walk over to see what was going on, matter of fact why did you just not head home after the local acts? If I don't like something I simple leave. It is strange how you stayed for Tyrese who you hate but left when Sherwayne came on Make ya wonna go mmmm.

Our culture program was great but only 600 people showed up it was also free!!!

The problem with the BVI is the hypocrisy and persons who send all day looking for the negative aspect of everything in life.

Next time I suggest you simple attend that which you enjoy and have the respect to allow everyone to do the same. I do agree the foul language was not needed. For those who wanted to see an international movie block buster star, Tommy Hilfiger Model & platinum r&b artist they got it for a hell of a lot cheaper then they would have gotten it for in NYC, LA, or ATL. Madison Square Garden cheap nose bleed seats are 50 buck and up front row seats can exceed $200.00. So Mr save yo little $20 it's recession time.

Tyrese Gibson is by far the biggest International artist the BVI has ever seen!!! Don't hate appreciate

I was there!! on August 26, 2009 04:11:57 AM
I know Carrot Bay event has come and gone but since I wanted to shed light on what I saw went down that last night with Tyrese....what a MESS that was...he can not sing, he is sort of a one hit wonder, and the ladies got PLAYED right out of $20 dollars....he was placed in the line up to attract the ladies (which he did) but he could at least give them a show instead he gave them a fake A++ act with four girls he paid to accompany him and pretend to be in the act...well, I enjoyed Barron in Brewers Bay way better and he and the band from STT doing their thing and they rocked the house....now that was and is CULTURE,,,,next time place those "wanna be" artist at CGB music fest...It seems to me as though the committee members intentions was to rake in the $$$ but at least keep it real with the SOCA, and end the event with folks who will give the people/crowd attending something to hold on too and want to return next year knowing that this year was great....you guys (committee memebers) next time do your research and give the people more of what they want...tyrese was rude and his nasty dirty words all throughout the show was way too much...some folks had their children in the crowd...he could not have done no such thing in LA, NYC, ATL, etc....I guess no one explained to him the culture of the BVI therefore he took it upon himself to come and DISRESPECT the islands with his PROFANITY to the staff...I was shame just hearing his nasty words of choice....he wanted tinted windows and grand entrance well, well...like they say when in rome do as the romans do...go with the flow and stop coming to the BVI trying to tell folks what and when to do this or that....you got paid and the folks attending got PUNKED...stuart and frank next time you guys get with the program and remember what the BVI Festival (culture) is ALL about and NOT think only about the dollars.,,,,the gov't assisted you all with the funds so why were folks being charged $20 entrance fee...I could see $10 but greed is always upon folks...in order to make money you have to spend some $$$ but when it's given to you by the gov't to do whatever is needed then who is the greedy one...Frank, you need not come and corrupt the folks in carrot bay ( even though that's where you are really from) if you can"t lead/assist them right then PLEASE leave them people of mine alone...they are not selfish but they are and can be easily mislead....do right by them so that they don't end up like the folks in CGB....remember in life we will ALL reap what we sow..therefore Carrot Bay Committee members remember to sow a good seed....treat your villagers/elders with respect and keep the festival as such "A FESTIVAL filled with CULTURE for ALL to attend and enjoy" and NOT a money making eventto fatten your pockets by being greedy...I attended the event therefore I write only from what I observed those three night...revamp for next year is needed and get things in the proper order....get too planning NOW so that half the errors made this year won't happen next year...the parking issue was a mess so take things back to the way it was in 2008..that worked out well or all...
