The BVI Football Association last week took a major step forward in developing not only Football in the territory, but sport as a whole as they played host to representatives from Football’s world governing body – FIFA, in a specially structured “Com-Unity” workshop.
The Com-Unity seminar drew together all of the stakeholders in football in the country to give the Association’s “Win In Concacaf With Concacaf” youth development programme the best chance of a sustainable future. From members of the football family to other sporting Associations, and Government officials to the media, the aim was to bring all parties together to be able to collectively move in the same direction for the improvement of the youth in the BVI.
On the opening day, participants learnt about the BVIFA’s plan for it’s 12-16 year old age groups and received presentations from members of the Government, the media, sponsors, the BVI Olympic Committee amongst others. The attendees also particpated in work groups which put together ideas for the improvement of the youth football programme.
Whilst the first day focused on improving relationships with the National Olympic Committee, the Government and related departments, there was also sections on how best to better the existing facilities in the BVI. Following presentations from FIFA instructors, the audience was split into working groups to discuss how to tackle 4 important topics.
Day two focused on the importance of Communication and the use of the media, and the final day on marketing and how best to attract and keep sponsors, with the participants having an active role in all three days.
BVI FA Technical Director Allan Greaves expressed his delight at the seminar – “It was a fantastic weekend, that gave us the opportunity to give our Youth programme a real boost. All the participants benefited greatly from this three day workshop, and this will hopefully provide the Association with a firm basis on which to build for the future”
