More ferries?? on November 23, 2009 07:43:41 PM
Another ferry service? We already have (2) going Mon/ Wed/ Frid.-----
Wouldn't it be realy nice if either they come to an agreement, or Gov't will make the agreement for them to have one going: Mon/ Wed/ Fri and the other Tue/ Thur/ Sat. If they takes bi-weekly turns on running on Sunday visitors could come and leave any day of the week without having to overnight on Tortola. And of course the Anegadians would no longer feel like being outer space people!!!

The Premair is soliciting bids again for this service? Come on, how long will Ralph Oneal go on with this. Smith's Ferry is doing a good job with no subsidy so what is the deal. It has to be that he has a particularly Ferry Service in mind. The Treasury is in trouble and he seems to be hell bent on continuing to pay out some $35,000 dollars a mth. to these ferry people. No wonder the Cookie Monster and Fraser are behaving the way they are with our taxes.

Uncle Ralph, the time is ripe for Government to make its exit and allow private enterprise to satisfy the needs of the travelling public. The child can now walk, the fledgling can fly, let it go. Smith's Ferry has demonstrated that the required service can be provided without a subsidy. I must assume that it is not your intention to feather someone's nest.
To exit, simply allow the present contract to expire and set minimum safety standards for operating the service inquestion. Please, give the Treasury a break.
