Reverend Lester Bowers dies after entering a coma

image

Reverend Lester Bowers, director of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College’s Success Centre, died Tuesday afternoon at Peebles Hospital after a brief illness, BVI News can confirm.

Bowers, a well-known Methodist minister from Antigua, was admitted to the hospital on Sunday. He was reportedly diagnosed with a terminal illness.

Scores of friends, family members and co-workers congregated at the Peebles Hospital today after hearing news that Reverend Bowers slumped into coma.

It is understood that Bowers’ wife Patricia was due to arrive from overseas today, and that a group of friends were expected to meet her at the airport for support.

am still in shock. I spoke to Rev, Bowers the Wednesday before he died. He told me he was not feeling well, but I never realised that would have been my last conversation with him. Rev. Bowers came to Montserrat fresh from College and what he did in one year to revive the Church at Bethel and Methodism on a whole was more than many in decades. I have never heard him preached a sermon which did not touch me deeply and to crown it all was his melodious voice. What a gifted dynamic preacher, a leader, a counsellor, a father and a Husband. His family was his world. His work on earth was short, but he will always live on in hearts and minds.

My entire family extend our sincere condolences to his dear wife Pat, his two adorable children , his dear Mother and all members of his extended family.

This is typical of Rev. he has gone to welcome all of us home. May his soul rest in eternal Peace.

Lester, see you in the morning.

Janice

You will always be one of the best ministers that the young people have dealt with in the SxM Methodist Congregation. We have lost a dynamic, energetic and loving minister. We will never understand why. But one thing we know is that God know best. Our deepest condolences to Mrs. Bowers and the rest of the family. Be strong cause God is with you. May he R.I.P.

An ANGEL walked among us and touched our lives for better, forever."Well done, thou good and faithful servant. You said "nevertheless" to your crucible of suffering, you bore your cross without complaint; you did what I asked you to do, come take your rest!" said the Master. Adieu, my friend and brother. Thank you for validating me.

He was a real person. He was not a fake minister, he meant what he said, and he said what he meant

My sincere condolences to Lester's family and friends.

It has been years since I last saw him, but from reading everyone's postings, realize that he had, though his ministry and good ntaure, touched the lives of others in a very positive way; a wonderful example for those of us left to podner. Life is indeed too short - so live, give and love.

Lester was a good friend of mine from when he lived in Atlanta and worked at Glenn Memorial UMC. I just found out and am in shock. Pat, Joey, Gigi, and the whole family: Know that I am praying for you and wish I was there to give you a big hug. Lester has touched so many people in his short life and he will be missed dearly. Love, Anne Lynch

I knew Lester since he was a young man.We were all members of the Ebenezar Methodist Church in Antigua going to sunday school. I remember him when he delivered that stirring sermon at the 170th Anniversary in February'09 at Ebenezar. He was full of spirit along with his usual jokes. He was a good guy.In everything we should give thanks - in life and death. To his immediate family and to his Mom and his brothers and sisters I say God will take care of you in this time. May his soul rest in peace

Farther along, we'll know all about it... Farther along we'll understand why... is the hymn which came to mind when I heard the tragic news. I was in disbelief as Lester had just hailed out to me in traffic only two days before that and he looked normal. Lester was truly a remarkable person. I had the opportunity to know him and I am truly glad I did. His genuine personality and his overwhelming desire to help everyone find peace within themselves were gifts that truly should have been with us for a longer time. I recall seeing him take Joey to school each morning and even in the hustle and bustle of the school yard he would always make sure he made the time to ask how I am doing. He always had quality and fair advice to give but he would always say "life is too short to live unhappy" and I now understand why he was so adamant that life is too short... May the Lord God Almighty bless, keep and comfort his family in this difficult time and may the work he began here on this earth find someone that can carry it on as effortless and effective as you have. It is my view hat world needs more of people like you and not less but the Lord giveth and he taketh away, blessed be the name of the Lord. Deeply Saddened.

I have not seen or spoken to him in while. I relive hearing his voice that unfortunate morning when he called to give me the info about Theodore. Now on hearing and confirming this sad news, I had to think of a way to break it to him. I know that they developed a friendship while they worked at HLSCC. Eventually I had to tell him and the response? I know his thoughts and mine also are with Pat and the rest of the. family. Words cannot express our sympaties.

Mr. Bowers, I will miss the jokes them even though them never scored sometimes. You were one of my best teachers while I attended the HLSCC. You were so inspiring, helpful and kind. I'll miss you dearly, may your soul rest in peace and may God bring comfort to your family and love ones. I will like to thank God for having you on earth and for the tremendous work that you have done. Until we meet again, continue to look over us.

I first met Lester when he came to Montserrat fresh out of college. My grandmother adopted him as her 'son' and took him under her 'wings' He was full of mischief, the joys of life, yet kind and empathetic. We met again when he came to St.Maarten to work.Everyone loved him. i now live in England but we kept in touch. He would always let me know when he was in 'Town'
I an in such a state of shock. I'm asking Why? when he had so much more to give. I guess God has a plan. Shine on my friend, my brother, When I see a bright star in the night sky I shall think of you.

I didn't know the Reverend personally, but I knew of him. My Mom was familiar and one sister a friend. My Sis is in shock about his untimely passing. He actually officiated over the christening of two of her kids. On behalf of her, and my family, I wish to extend our utmost condolence to his wife and kids as well as his extended family. May he rest in peace and be remembered for all the wonderful things he did over his lifetime. His work is done here on earth now; he's in the hands of the Almighty.
